Shuffle Song Of The Day (5/12/23): “Ceremony” By New Order

“Ceremony” is a song by the British new wave band New Order, and it was released in 1981. The song was technically written and originally performed by the legendary post punk band Joy Division, but after the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis in 1980, the remaining members of the band formed New Order and released this song their first single under the new name

This, along with “In A Lonely Place”, were the last songs Ian Curtis wrote, and that latter one always haunts me. I find it very strange that the song “In A Lonely Place” didn’t tip off the other band members that he was going through some serious shit, and I’m sure that’s a regret they live with every day

Joy Division was a great band that unfortunately came to an abrupt end in the saddest of ways, but thankfully the rest of the band was able to pick up the pieces they picked up right away with another great band that was just as good (albeit with a completely different style)

Rest In Peace Ian

LYRICS

This is why events unnerve me,
They find it all, a different story,
Notice whom for wheels are turning,
Turn again and turn towards this time,
All she ask’s the strength to hold me,
Then again the same old story,
World will travel, oh so quickly,
Travel first and lean towards this time.

Oh, I’ll break them down, no mercy shown,
Heaven knows, it’s got to be this time,
Watching her, these things she said,
The times she cried,
Too frail to wake this time.

Oh I’ll break them down, no mercy shown
Heaven knows, it’s got to be this time,
Avenues all lined with trees,
Picture me and then you start watching,
Watching forever, forever,
Watching love grow, forever,
Letting me know, forever.
