“Smile Like You Mean It” is a song by the Las Vegas rock band The Killers. It was one of four singles from their debut album, Hot Fuss, which was released in 2004
Hot Fuss is sneakily one of the greatest debut albums of the past 25 years or so. You can really hear the new wave/post punk influence throughout the whole album, but especially on this song. Plus, what an insanely good track list. Songs 1-5 are as follows: “Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine”, “Mr. Brightside”, “Smile Like You Mean It”, “Somebody Told Me”, and “All These Things That I’ve Done”. Wow, just wow. Most albums, especially debut albums, can only hope for 1 or 2 songs to really make a splash in the mainstream market, but not Hot Fuss. Not only did it contain those 4 bangers, but it had them all in a row, with many other good songs to act as the bench players
Getting back to the song at hand, what a complete power move by The Killers to release a music video for this song 12 years after it came out. I’m as lazy as they come, but I feel like that move brings a whole new meaning to the term. Unless of course it was just a mistake, and the top comment on the YouTube video sums up that potential scenario perfectly

I also loved “Jenny was a friend of mine” from this album. 😊

Very true, I’m pretty sure that’s the opening song too so that’s 5 great songs in a row
