We’ve entered yet another week of quarantine due to Coronavirus, and if you’re like me, the monotony of all this is beginning to take it’s toll. I wouldn’t say I’m completely insane (yet), but I’m definitely inching closer and closer as each second passes by. A person can only alternate between working from home and watching Netflix within the same walls for so long before they inevitably snap, and let’s just say the straw that will eventually break the camel’s back has already assumed the position and is ready to go.
A wise man once said, “Only boring people get bored”. This used to be an expression I agreed with, but this Coronavirus stuff has me doubting my beliefs. I thought this was going to be a cake walk when it first started, but I’d be lying if I said the boredom wasn’t starting to get to me. I’ve already watched all of the movies and shows I wanted to finish during this ordeal, so now what? Should I sit in a rocking chair on my porch and be alone with my thoughts for the next month or so? Fuck that. I’ve always been a somewhat introverted person and I love alone time as much as anybody, but even I’ve come to realize that hanging out with just myself for weeks at a time gets old real fast.
Thankfully one of my favorite comedians, Louis CK, decided to throw us all a bone over the weekend by releasing a surprise standup special titled “Sincerely” through his website. It costs 8 bucks, and if you’re anywhere near as bored as I am lately, I highly recommend giving it a watch. Truth be told I had tickets to see him this past Saturday night at The Orpheum Theater, but it was of course cancelled because some guy in China decided to eat a bat. Although watching this on my laptop wasn’t the same as seeing him live, it did act as an unexpected consolation prize. So even though it’s nowhere near what I would consider his best material, it’s a solid hour of jokes that made me belly laugh a few times on Saturday night. Plus, it’s refreshing to see Louis back and doing his thing, so to a fan like me, it was a no brainer to purchase this and support somebody that has gave me countless laughs over the years. Here’s a link to his site if you want to buy it https://louisck.com
In the title, I mentioned that I hope this idea catches on. What I mean by that is I hope other entertainers follow Louis’ lead by deciding to release some new stuff we can all watch or listen to during this mess. I’m sure so many comedians and musicians are sitting on unreleased material at the moment, and what better time to release it than right now while everybody is cooped up in their houses? Look at the success of Call Of Duty: War Zone (Which coincidentally was released right before quarantine started). It’s so popular that the servers crash all the time because they can’t handle how many people are playing at once. So come on guys. Release that new song or stand up bit you’ve been working on. You’ll get guaranteed views and press coverage, and more importantly, it will save us all from boredom.
Lastly, I’m sure some of you out there might be appalled by this. How dare I support Louis after what he did, as if he drowned an entire litter of puppies or something. I’ve already blogged about the Louis CK controversy a few times (Here and Here, if you want to know my basic stance on it all). If you hate Louis, fine. But take your picket signs and screeching complaints somewhere else because I’m not interested. All the controversy in the world doesn’t change the fact that he’s a top 5 comedian of all time, and if you disagree with a statement like that, you can suck a bag of dicks.
