Shuffle Song Of The Day (4/12/19): “Chemicals” By Tigers Jaw

“Chemicals” is a song by the band Tigers Jaw that appeared as the fourth track on their 2008 self titled album. Hailing right down the street from Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania, it’s a damn shame that Tigers Jaw never collaborated with Michael and the rest of the employees in some way. While most people think of The Office when they hear Scranton, it also has a pretty active music scene for a somewhat small city, with Tigers Jaw and The Menzingers being the most notable “famous” bands to come out of there. This entire album reminds me so much of freshman year of high school, as does a lot of similar emo music from this time period. We might not be the angsty teens we were when it first came out, but it still lifts my mood a little to hear throwbacks like this. Although some of it has become admittedly cheesy over time, Tigers Jaw is still one of the bands from back then that holds up and I can still listen to. This song popping up on shuffle today is a little bittersweet for me however. You see, Tigers Jaw was just in Boston last weekend with another band I like: Balance and Composure. Being the oblivious idiot that I am, I waited way too long to buy tickets and missed it. This especially sucks because Balance and Composure is breaking up, so it’s quite possibly the last time I would have seen them. Never wait folks, and next time Tigers Jaw comes around, I’m buying my tickets at 12:01 AM they day pre-sale hits.

PS: That slice of pizza on the album cover looks delicious

I Guess PS Again: I’ve been slacking really hard on these, but I’m gonna try my best to start posting these more often again

we are made from chemicals

but what holds us together is much more than that

you are strong

so much stronger than me

all along, you are everything

and i am nothing

we spend our summers writing songs

of how we’d never make it on our own

but here we are

and i surrender

i’m running thin

you were right, because you are everything

and i am nothing
