Shuffle Song Of The Day (9/5/18): “Space Truckin” By Deep Purple

“Space Truckin” is a song by Deep Purple from their 1972 album Machine Head. A lot of people’s minds go straight to “Smoke On The Water”, but I think this is the best song on the album and by them in general. Everything about this song is just so early 70’s. The vocals, the guitar riff and solo, and I especially love the drums in this song. The drum roll that starts about 3:30 into the song is so fast my unmusically talented self has no clue how you can make sticks hit that fast. I also have no idea what space truckin means in the first place. The lyrics are very outer space themed, but I think it sounds like it would be a really cool 1970’s way to talk about getting high. For example: “Hey I just bought an 8th Of shrooms, wanna go space truckin tonight?”. Badass, and if that’s not what space truckin means then they fucked up on what could have been a great slang term.

We had a lot of luck on Venus

We always had a ball on Mars

Meeting all the groovey people

We’ve rocked the Milky Way so far

We danced around with Borealice

We’re space truckin’ round the the stars

Come on let’s go Space Truckin’

Remember when we did the moonshot

And Pony Trekker led the way

We’d move to the Canaveral moonstop

And everynaut would dance and sway

We got music in our solar system

We’re space truckin’ round the stars

Come on let’s go Space Truckin’

The fireball that we rode was moving

But now we’ve got a new machine

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah the freaks said

Man those cats can really swing

They got music in their solar system

They’ve rocked around the Milky Way

They dance around the Borealice

They’re Space Truckin’ everyday

Come on
