Shuffle Song Of The Day (5/26/18): “Radio” By Alkaline Trio

“Radio” is a song by Alkaline Trio from their 2000 album Maybe I’ll Catch Fire. Led by Matt Skiba, the current front man of Blink 182 after Tom’s departure, this 3 piece band from Chicago is as underrated as the come. This song tells the story of a breakup and all the self-medicating that comes along with it. His hatred for his ex is so actually so great that during the chorus he hopes a plugged in radio falls into her bathwater and electrocutes her, which leads me to believe their relationship didn’t end on good terms. This song also has one of my favorite opening lyrics ever: “Shaking like a dog shitting razor blades”. Now I’ve never shut out razor blades personally, but I would assume I would also be shaking. And here I was thinking Taco Bell destroyed my asshole. Razorblades sound much worse, so I’m thankful it hasn’t happened to me.

Favorite Lyric(s)

Shaking like a dog shitting razorblades

Waking up next to nothing after dreaming of you and me

I’m waking up all alone, waking up so relieved

While you’re taking your time with apologies

I’m making my plans for revenge

Red eyes on orange horizons

If Columbus was wrong, I’d drive straight off the edge

Taking your own life with boredom

I’m taking my own life with wine

It helps you to rule out the sorrow

It helps me to empty my mind

Making the most of a bad time

I’m smoking the brains from my head

Leaving the coal calling the kettle black and orange and red

This kettle is seeing red

I’ve got a big fat fuckin’ bone to pick with you my darling

In case you haven’t heard I’m sick, and tired of trying

I wish you would take my radio to bathe with you

Plugged in and ready to fall
