Shuffle Song Of The Day (5/12/18): “Down In A Hole” By Alice In Chains

“Down In A Hole” is a song by the grunge band Alice In Chains from their 1992 hit album Dirt. My personal favorite album and possibly song by AIC, the emotion from Layne’s voice and lyrics get me everytime in this one. Despite never being hooked on heroin (knock on wood), I think we can all somewhat relate to the sorta “down in a hole” feeling he’s talking about. Being helplessly stuck while more and more shit piles on top of you sucks, and for whatever reason, music like this helps with dealing with those types of unfortunate feelings. I was never much of a math whiz, but it must be the cancellation property or something. Negative feelings x Negative song=Positivity. Never thought I’d say it, but thanks math.

Favorite Lyric(s)

Bury me softly in this womb

I give this part of me for you

Sand rains down and here I sit

Holding rare flowers

In a tomb, in bloom

Down in a hole and I don’t know if I can be saved

See my heart I decorate it like a grave

You don’t understand who they thought

I was supposed to be

Look at me now a man

Who won’t let himself be

Down in a hole, feelin’ so small

Down in a hole, losin’ my soul

I’d like to fly, but my wings have been so denied

Down in a hole and they’ve put all the stones in their place

I’ve eaten the sun so my tongue

Has been burned of the taste

I have been guilty of kicking myself in the teeth

I will speak no more of my feelings beneath
