Shuffle Song Of The Day (5/4/18): “Learning To Fly” By Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers

“Learning to Fly” is a song by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers from their 1991 album Into the Great Wide Open. Tom Petty is perfect day drinking music, and given the weather today, I’m really glad this song came on shuffle because it’s one of my favorites from Tom Petty. It’s really unfortunate that he passed away last year, because he was on my list of musicians I really wanted to see live. His death was a wake up call to never put off going to concerts, because you never know if the chance will ever come again. RIP Tom Petty, and thanks for providing more hits than I can count.

Favorite Lyric(s)

Well I started out down a dirty road,

Started out all alone,

And the sun went down as I crossed the hill,

And the town lit up, the world got still

I’m learning to fly, but I ain’t got wings,

Coming down is the hardest thing

Well the good ol’ days may not return,

And the rocks might melt and the sea may burn

Well some say life will beat you down,

Break your heart, steal your crown,

So I’ve started out for God knows where,

I guess I’ll know when I get there
