Shuffle Song Of The Day (4/19/18): “The Art Of Peer Pressure” By Kendrick Lamar

“The Art Of Peer Pressure” is a song by Kendrick Lamar from his 2011 album Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City. Definitely a front runner of the rap world nowadays, Kendrick Lamar is good shit. His older work like Section.80, Overly Dedicated, and this album are all very solid, and it’s refreshing that atleast somebody can still rap without mumbling and talking about Xanax all the time. This entire album is a story, and this song tells the tale of Kendrick and his friends cruising around Compton as teenagers and eventually breaking into somebody’s house. Gangster shit for sure, and as I’ve mentioned before, I love story telling rap. Kendrick actually just won a Pulitzer Prize for his most recent album, DAMN, and although cool, he’s been slowly trying to get too woke lately. Just like everything else these days, he involving way too much political influence in his raps and it’s a little annoying. I already have enough politics shoved in my face everyday, so my only complaint is that I’d rather just hear some good rap instead. And also don’t listen to what your D.A.R.E. officer told you back in the day, because peer pressure is awesome and always leads to making smart decisions that make you cool.

Smoking on the finest dope,
Aye aye aye aye,
Drank until I can’t no mo’,
Aye aye aye aye,
Really I’m a sober soul,
But I’m with the homies right now,
And we ain’t asking for no favors,
Rush a nigga quick then laugh about it later,
Aye aye aye aye,
Really I’m a peacemaker,
But I’m with the homies right now,

Me and my niggas four deep in a white Toyota,
A quarter tank of gas, one pistol, and orange soda

Bumping Jeezy first album looking distracted,
Speaking language only we know, you think it’s an accent,
The windows roll down all I see is a hand pass it,
Hotboxing like George Foreman grilling the masses

I got the blunt in my mouth,
Usually I’m drug-free, but shit I’m with the homies

Bragging ’bout the episode we just had,
A shot of Hennessey didn’t make me feel that bad,
I’m usually a true firm believer of bad karma,
Consequences from evil will make your past haunt ya

I hit the back window in search of any Nintendo,
DVDs, plasma screen TVs in the trunk,
We made a right, then made a left, then made a right,
Then made a left, we was just circling life,
My mama called – “Hello? What you doin’? “Kicking it”,
I should’ve told her I’m probably ‘bout to catch my first offense with the homies
