Shuffle Song Of The Day (3/22/18): “Message In A Bottle” By The Police

“Message in a Bottle” was the lead single off of the 1979 album Regatta De Blanc by the English band The Police. Besides Rush, The Police are probably my favorite rock trio of all time. One of the band’s more famous songs, a lot of younger people tend to know it from Guitar Hero 2, and I think we can all agree that the guitar riff gave us all carpel tunnel while trying to beat this song. The song talks about the idea of being lonely and sending out a message in a bottle, which I’ve always thought was sort of a crazy concept: Just putting a letter in a bottle, throwing it into the ocean, and then having no idea where it goes. Even crazier would be finding a message in a bottle, and having no idea where it came from. Imagine finding a message in a bottle, opening it up, and it just says, “If you’re reading this, go fuck yourself”. Boom roasted. Talk about a total day ruiner. Some person just insulted you anonymously from the other side of the ocean and there’s nothing you can do about it. You’d have no choice but to try to hunt that person down and fight them. Nobody tells me to go fuck myself, not to my face or on a letter in a mysterious bottle I picked up at the beach.

PS: Just realized that Stewart Copeland (The Drummer) kinda looks like Dylan Klebold (One of the Columbine shooters)

Now I’m not saying that the drummer of The Police shot up Columbine High School, but I’m also not not saying it either.

Favorite Lyric(s)

“Just a castaway,
An island lost at sea,
Another lonely day,
With no one here but me”

“More loneliness,
Than any man could bear,
Rescue me before I fall into despair”

“I’ll send an SOS to the world,
I hope that someone gets my,
Message in a bottle”

“Love can mend your life,
But love can break your heart”

“Walked out this morning,
Don’t believe what I saw,
A hundred billion bottles,
Washed up on the shore,
Seems I’m not alone at being alone,
A hundred billion castaways,
Looking for a home”
